Discussion to Focus on Financial Technology, Information Security, Entrepreneurs and More
ATLANTA (November 29, 2011) – Georgia’s Science and Technology Study Commission, which was created after the passage of Senate Resolution 68 earlier this year to help develop a strategic plan for science and technology for the state, will be holding its seventh meeting at the Riverfront Campus headquarters of TSYS in Columbus, GA, from 1:00-5:00 p.m. on November 30. The meeting is open to the public and members of the local business community are encouraged to attend to discuss what they feel is important to grow these industries in Georgia.
“Georgia is becoming one of the leading states in the nation for technology,” stated Tino Mantella, president and CEO of TAG and a member of the commission. “But, in order to continue to grow these important industries, we must do more to support our science and technology companies through the passage of business-friendly laws, developing and retaining technology talent and finding the most effective ways to support our entrepreneurs and growth-stage companies. Our goal through this commission is to tackle those needs through the state’s first-ever strategic plan for science and technology.”
At the Columbus meeting, the 11 members of the commission will listen to testimony from business leaders from around the state, focusing especially on the financial technology and information security industries, as well as the development of Georgia’s entrepreneurial community. There will also be an opportunity for the public to make any comments or suggestions they feel are necessary to grow the industry.
“As a financial technology company, TSYS certainly understands the importance of this commission and the task before them,” said Philip W. Tomlinson, chairman of the board and chief executive officer, TSYS. “We are excited to host the next meeting session here in Columbus, and participate in the panel discussion that will help set the course for a strategic science and technology plan in the state of Georgia.”
